What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the oldest living healing practice in the world, and a sister science to yoga. Ayurveda allows one to develop deep understanding of his or her own unique nature and how to navigate through the process of healing accordingly with person-specific diet, herbs and lifestyle.  Through holistic means, Ayurveda offers a path to life-long balance and health that takes into consideration your age, environment, career, personality, spiritual tendencies, familial life and physical constitution.

Ayurveda is for everyone, because it is a system that deepens your relationship with nature, so that you sync yourself with the rhythms of life.  It’s the handbook to your body that you should have gotten as a child, but didn't.   Ayurveda makes you more resliant & more tuned in, by giving you the tools you need to ride the waves of life, like an elegant surfer, rather than get knocked out and washed ashore.  Rather than a cookie-cutter symptom-based approach, Ayurveda finds and treats the specific underlying causes of imbalance, whether the cause is dietary, emotional, hormonal, genetic, astrological or karmic.  Learn to spontaneously make appropriate choices according to the season, the time of life, and the particular circumstances they face from one day to the next.

-Calm the mind & nervous system
-Improve memory & clarity of mind
-Deepen sleep
-Cool, support & balance the liver
-Decrease intestinal gas & discomfort
-Increase joy & resilience
-Deeply nourish the brain & reproductive tissue
-Balance Hormones (for men & women)
-Decrease excessive criticism (of self or others)
-Sooth irritated mucous membranes
-Heal pranic imbalances including excess heat, fear, hyper active nervous system and insomnia

Why herbs in ghee?
Ayurveda has many traditional methods of herbal preparation, each designed for different therapeutic effects that are synergistic with the chosen herbs. Herbal ghee is taken as a daily tonic, a small amount each day, to reach deep into the tissue.  While herbal pills, powders & teas take time to be digested and incorporated by the body, herbs carried by ghee reach the brain and bodily tissues directly & immediately.  While alcohol tinctures tend to be sharp in nature, ghee is soothing.  Ghee does not clog the liver as does other oils, but strengthens it.    Ghee is good for vata & pitta doshas. Ghee itself is nourishing & promotes agni (metabolic fire) without aggravating pitta.  Ghee enhances ojas (the subtle essence of all tissues & of immunity) and gives light to tejas, the fire of the mental clarity.
